GENTE CALP
I joined CALP as a 4th grade teacher and English Coordinator seven years ago . This is my 6th year teaching Kindergarten at “ Los Pibes ”.
I received my degree in Psychology from the University of San Diego and later a K12 Bilingual Teaching Credential . For more than 10 years I worked at South Bay Union School District teaching elementary school in San Diego .
In these years as an English Teacher I have had the opportunity to experience the amazing ability that my 5 year old students have in acquiring a second language . Through song , dance , and making learning fun , kinder students thrive !
A technique that we use daily in our classroom to help learn our alphabet is ” Total Physical Response ” ( TPR ). We see the letter , we hear the sound and name of the letter , as well as a body movement or hand signal . This allows the student to distinguish between subtle differences in sounds , especially tricky short vowels !
I am very grateful toCALP for all their support , my coworkers , and all my wonderful students , for bringing so much joy , laughter and bright smiles everyday !
