Creating a Generation
of Leaders at Weaverville
Primary School
by Gardner Bridges, Principal, Weaverville Primary
Weaverville Primary School (WPS) is one of six Buncombe County Schools
participating in the “Leader in Me Program” this year, with several
schools likely to start training next year.
Our staff has eagerly attended the Franklin Covey, 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People training in preparation for this program. It has been
an absolutely amazing journey. We are well prepared and ready to
introduce our children to these powerful principles. We are committed
to leadership development in our school using the common language
found in Dr. Stephen R. Covey’s best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People and communicated to children by Sean Covey’s book,
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
The Leader in Me teaches students personal
leadership and 21 st century life skills such as goal
setting, time management, team work, problem
solving, respecting diversity, and life balance.
More specifically, the process:
“My children are being educated to open the
door to their future rather than waiting for the
door to open.”
• Develops the “whole child” and sees each
child as having unique gifts
• Is founded on “The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People” and other proven leadership principles
• Creates a sustainable, safe, and friendly school culture
