Charles T. Koontz Intermediate Growing the Leader in Me By Stacia Harris, Communications Department “It’s not just something that we do, it’s who we all are!” This is how fifth-grade teacher Julie Wimbish describes the Leader in Me program at Koontz Intermediate. Based on Sean Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids,” the Leader in Me teaches students about responsibility, perseverance, and hard work. “I believe that the Leader in Me has made lasting impacts on students’ academic progress and personal growth,” Wimbish said. “I have seen students overcome challenges, set and track goals, and achieve personal success because of the implementation of this program.” The Leader in Me emphasizes important habits that students learn and practice both in and out of school. “We really see the value in this program and work on teaching it and incorporating it into our day-to-day lessons,” said Principal Reggie Bright. “I’m so impressed to see our students embracing, understanding, and practicing these habits throughout the school day.” Several other schools have also implemented the Leader in Me program.
