Hooper said he wants the brewery to be a community hub. He’ s put effort into arranging live music, food trucks, and upgrading the beer ingredients, all because he wants to offer a place to bring people together. He likes to see families in the establishment. He also loves seeing people come to his business to enjoy part of their day.
FAMILIAR FACES
On the other side of Maryville, at 1532 E. Broadway Ave., Andy Redley and Sean Withers are also big on community. They’ ve operated Swärā Brewing Company for the last two years, offering a wide range of flavors from their 16 taps. Redley’ s taste leans adventurous. Withers’ is traditional.
On average, they offer 12 beers and four taps of seltzers, ciders and the like.
The desire to foster a sense of belonging, Withers said, has informed most of their business decisions – right down to the shape of the bar counter. Withers and Redley had the top poured in a curved shape, allowing people several seats apart to talk to each other without leaning awkwardly over the top. Even the bar hooks received thought. Swärā’ s owners opted for carabiners rather than simple hooks, making everyone’ s possessions a little safer.
