BYK-Gardner Q.C. Instruments Lonza
True Digital Masters from BYK-Gardner via industry leading instruments
– for Solid & Metallic Colour, Sparkle & Graininess, Appearance, Gloss,
Cloudiness, Haze, Transparency and Clarity… Sustainable in-can preservation
BYK-Gardner have developed Industry standard instruments for accuracy, repeatability and
inter-instrument agreement in aspects including colour, sparkle, orange peel, gloss, clarity, haze
and cloudiness, and which have enabled the deployment of true digital standards throughout the
supply chain. This has enabled full digital self-approval at every stage of a product life cycle, from
initial product development, through batch manufacture, tier 1 components, harmony of finally
assembled items and their replacement or repair.
Dig ital approval each stage of a product life cycle, building in quality at the earliest opportunity of
every stage whilst minimizing lead times, reducing stock holding of both raw materials and finished
goods, improving working capital and cash flow. By achieving optimum RFT, businesses can focus
on other value added activities and driving their business forward, rather than of trying to repair
the issues created by poor quality, which doubles the savings that can be achieved. Measure what
you see!
Lonza has always recognized the need to innovate and evolve. They continue to develop new
biocide formulations that meet market expectations on performance while still complying with
current regulatory requirements. The latest market trend is the expected significant reduction in
the use of MIT as an in-can biocide for use in applications such as paints and polymer emulsions.
Poor in-can preservation results in product spoilage (loss of viscosity, pH and colour change, foul
odours and loss of performance) which generates significant volumes of waste product. This has
an environmental and commercial impact for suppliers, manufacturers and consumers.
Fortunately, Lonza has the answer to this issue. For many years they have been developing a range
of MIT free in-can biocides and today they have three flagship formulations available to their
customers.
IST METZ
The IST METZ “Hot Swap” Drying System
The IST METZ “Hot Swap” product concept works across sheetfed, web and narrow web
printing applications to offer printers the option of switching between UV lamps and UV LED
arrays. It is a stepping stone to more sustainable drying methods without compromise on
effectiveness. These are two different ways of drying sheets, boards or other substrates and
each enables work to be immediately finished and shipped (ideal for fast turnarounds) and gives
work a huge aesthetic lift. The housing, cooling and electrical supply for both systems have been
matched for the Hot Swap concept. Now printers can use the right technology for the right job
and significantly reduce their energy bills.
