Board of Directors
The main activity overseen by the BCF’s Board of Directors in
2018 was the purchase of Spectra House, BCF’s new home just
south of Coventry, which opened on time in May 2018, and on
budget, just 3 months after the purchase was completed. The
office was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Coventry at
the end of June 2018.
Given the BCF’s growth in financial reserves over the past few
years, the Federation paid for the building (on a 99 year lease)
outright in cash. Running costs will be significantly lower than the
much smaller office in Leatherhead, and the benefit of a central
location and 3 meeting rooms is already resulting in higher
attendance at BCF meetings.

Rolling out the BCF roadmap in other areas was also progressed,
with the launch of the BCF Apprenticeships, the extension of
PaintSafe into industrial coatings and the new concrete and
plastic packaging projects for PaintCare. In May 2018, the board
unanimously agreed to support staying within the European
Association, CEPE, and also agreed a joint statement from CEPE
and BCF on the future relationship, regardless of the Brexit
outcome.
The 2018 financial result (turnover and surplus) was ahead of
expectations in the 2018-23 BCF Roadmap. Given the BCF’s
pension deficit, which will have its triennial valuation this year, a
fixed charge on the building has been given to the BCF pension
trustees. At the November board meeting, the BCF’s business
continuity plan was reviewed and approved.
