PROGRAMMES BCF events Brexit Seminar 2019 BCF Print Forum: throwing light on UV LED On March 28th 2019, BCF held their second Brexit seminar – Brexit: the future relationship – which addressed growing concerns within the industry about how it could progress post- Brexit. The event took place at a tumultuous time in politics as Brexit had recently been granted a delay. Held in Edinburgh 2nd October and Sutton Coldfield on 9th October, BCF welcomed a new event to 2018 to promote innovation in the UK’s printing inks industry. BCF’s print forum: throwing light on UV LED’ was specifically designed to introduce a new technical advancement: UV LED curing technology. The event began with Richard Rumbelow, UK Government and Affairs EU Policy Adviser from Make UK, who provided an understanding of the latest Brexit insights and intelligence. The BCF have been members of Make UK for nearly two years. A pre-lunchtime session welcomed some government perspectives including Dave Bench, HSE; James Dancy, Head of EU Exit at DEFRA; Jo Bray, Deputy Director, BEIS; and Alastair Gardner, Trade Specialist DIT. Speakers at the Brexit Seminar Providing a broad range of speakers to tell the tale, the event informed the UK print community about the technology. Competitive reasons to use UV LED curing were highlighted along with a number of case studies for clarity. Following this, was a panel discussion from BCF member companies. U-POL, HMG Powder, Sun Chemical and Synthomer were represented. Finally, there was an outside of EU voice, Mattias Baumberger, who provided a Swiss perspective as Managing Director of the Swiss Coatings Federation. Succeeding was Terry Rees-Pedlar, on behalf of ADS Group, to offer up a long-term perspective as a downstream user. Although the technology first appeared in the print sector more than 10 years ago, it has recently taken the printing world by storm. With an impressive array of ink and coatings members, plus a selected group of equipment manufacturers and other print consumables suppliers, the BCF were able to present this forum. Speakers at the UV LED Seminar Delegates were able to speak one-to-one with industry experts as they decided whether the technology would be a good fit for their printing processes.
