BCF Annual Conference & Gala Dinner
The BCF’s Annual Conference and Gala Dinner took place in May 2018, at the DeVere Oxford Thames and
featured a host of high profile speakers, offering insight into industry hot topics including recruiting and
retaining talent, apprenticeships, sustainability and cyber security.
The event continues to grow each year, and
welcomed over 130 industry professionals from
the coatings, printing inks and wallcoverings
industries.
A special presentation was made during
the Gala Dinner as it marked the end of a
presidency as Vincent O’ Sullivan, of PPG
Architectural Coatings, handed his title to David
Beckford, of Pronto Industrial Paints. Vincent
O’Sullivan said it had been an honour and a
privilege to serve as BCF President and thanked
the BCF team. David was assured stepping into
the role:
“I know the BCF will continue to work
hard on our behalf to ensure that we
have the support and knowledge to be
able to adapt accordingly, foreseeing
long term growth and prosperity for
both the association and the industry.”
Additional presentations were made during the
dinner, including the presentation of the Silver
Medal to Martin Wallen, formerly of Firwood
Paints. The Silver Medal is the most prestigious
award presented by the BCF, and recognises
champions of the UK’s coatings industry.

Silver Medal was created to recognise.
I’d like to personally thank Martin for
his commitment to the Federation,
and the expertise he lent us, as well as
his probing questions that have kept
us focussed on the issues at hand that
affect our members.”

Finally, BCF’s lead Technical Consultant Peter
Collins, was recognised with BCF’s Industry
Recognition Award, commemorating his more
than 35 years’ service to the UK coatings
industry – which includes significant efforts to
promote the sector to the next generation of
talent.
