Delight Mapasure had long nurtured the belief that in the UK sausages have traditionally struggled to make the impact they warrant on the typical BBQ meat platter, too often treated as the stereotypical ‘support cast,’ or ‘warm-up act’ to big juicy steaks, marinated meats, swish salmon, even occasionally suckling pig hogs taking centre stage.

Yes sausages are reliable ‘crowd pleasers’ especially among the younger ‘BBQ adoring’ fraternity, but surely it’s time to look beyond the ‘ketchup slathered’ chipolatas and Lincolnshires for something altogether more substantial!

K’s Wor’s award-winning Boerwors (as seen on BBC’s Life & Debt 27/11) is a passionate, Manchester-based start-up singlehandedly championing the interests of the mighty Southern African inspired Boerewors.

Boerewors for those BBQ aficionados not in-the-know, is a gastronomic ‘meat feast of a sausage, (up to 92% meat content) made from heavily-seasoned fine cuts of beef, lamb and pork and centuries of proud, Southern African heritage. Boerewors is actually held in such high culinary esteem on the African continent where their deliciously distinct ingredient make-up is jealously guarded by South African law.

Compulsive entrepreneur, Delight Mapasure was looking for a way to champion her homeland cuisine in an age when international flavours are increasingly inspiring the innovations of the major UK food & drinks chains. Looking around Delight quickly came to the conclusion that the UK sausage fixture had become a tad tired and samey.

K’s Wors 4-strong Boerewors selection is an all-encompassing, 4-strong family of podgy bangers that even before their launch (Sept 18) had secured enviable plaudits (and accolades) at the Great Taste (3 x winner) and UK Sausage awards.

K’s Wors is available in: Chilli, Chilli & Garlic, Chakalaka & ‘Countrystyle’ flavours

According to Delight, ‘I fervently believe that I’m doing my bit to raise the bar for the inspirational BBQ banger, appealing to traditional sausage aficionados looking to broaden their flavour horizons, a homesick, ex-pat community craving stronger ‘flavour ties’ with their homeland &the influential clique of inquisitive ‘early adopters’ who are forever rummaging around for the very best overseas-inspired cuisine.’
