BBI QBL The Wrap 2017 Issue 8 | Page 3

Welcome... TONIGHT marks the meeting of arguably the longest running South East Queensland Bas- ketball club rivalry in the QBL; and it’s great for the sport. Prior to our Round 5 outing against Southern Districts, the last time our teams met in an official game was over 11 years ago. It is great to welcome back to NAB Stadium our cross-town neighbours for a contest across the SBL and QBL, which continues to forge this long-standing competition. Both our QBL teams are fresh off the back of the Central Queensland road trip, with both The Wesley Lady Capitals and The Hu- dor Men’s Capitals teams splitting the road trip with wins in Mackay followed by close fought contests in Rockhampton. The home stretch to the playoffs is red hot with teams looking to secure their spot in the new QBL finals format. Round 14 sees The Wes- ley Lady Capitals (6th, 8-6 record) take on top of the ta- ble Southern Districts Spar- tans (1st, 15-0 record). Last time both teams met was on May 27 in Round 5 action. On that occasion, Brisbane fell short in a 59 – 70 loss. The Spartans shot an im- pressive 39% from behind the arch and out rebounded the Capitals 43 – 33. For the Caps, 14 missed opportu- nities at the free throw line was a telling factor down the stretch. Top perform- ers for the Capitals were Heidi Freeburn (14pts, 4rbs & 2asts); Victoria Aldred (12pts, 4rbs); and Team Captain Amy Lewis (9pts, 4rbs, 3asts & 3stls). The Hudor Men’s Capitals (2nd, 11-3 record) take on Southern Districts Spartans (8th, 7-8 record). The last time these two teams met resulted in a 99 – 86 victory to the Capitals. The Capi- tals shot an impressive 67% (24-36) from inside the arch in that game. Top perform- ers for the Capitals were Aaron Anderson (24pts, 3asts); Princeton Onwas (22pts, 9rbs); and Dusty Ry- chart (13pts, 19rbs). In addition to our QBL Teams playing tonight, both our Women’s (3rd, 8-3) and Men’s (3rd, 10-3) SBL teams take on the Southern Dis- tricts Spartans. With this the last game, both teams look to cement their finals placings and prepare for the SBL playoffs commence August 5th. #ourteamourtownourtime #capsnation #QBL17 Trevor Lidstone General Manager Brisbane Basketball Inc.
