Wander and Wonder

Wander and wonder is a woodland escape that provides a naturalistic space in which to explore and unwind using the five senses as well as find a space for reflection and connection to nature . The path , representing a dried up riverbed , leads through a rich texture of wavy grasses and lush ferns to a calm , shady woodland . The border is designed for the service users of Rookery Gardens , a local mental health service in partnership with the NHS and Birmingham Mind , where it will be relocated . Ceramic snails hidden throughout the border represent the 25 homes of the service users .

A primary school lesson all about sunflowers , set within a forest school . Within the setting of a woodland , School children will learn how to plant sunflower seeds in pots , observe how they grow into sunflower plants and create drawings & paintings of the sunflowers they can see .

This is a protective and nurturing space to share with butterflies and moths throughout each stage of their development . Using plants that attract butterflies and moths , incorporating water , resting areas and including habitats for each stage of their development , this border is Rachel ’ s safe haven to share with them . Change can be a positive experience and by drawing on her own personal and professional development over the last decade , this border reflects how Rachel needs a place to rest and recharge to be able to develop and flourish , just like our at risk butterfly and moth species .
