The Restoration Garden
Wingfield station in Derbyshire is one of the earliest surviving railway buildings and remains almost unaltered . Designed by Francis Thompson for the North Midland Railway . It closed in 1967 and suffered years of neglect . It is being restored by Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust .
The Restoration garden celebrates this transformation from a sad , forgotten , derelict site into a faithfully restored building .
The garden will encapsulate the restoration using two design themes : One showing the dereliction with planting using plants found on brown field sites , contrasting with a second more structured and contemporary area indicating the completed restoration .
