Beautiful Borders
Welcome to our Beautiful Borders ! This years theme is Wild Life , be it garden ecosystems and habitats , the beauty of untamed natural planting , a garden space to let your hair down in , or a fierce colour palette – we ’ re so excited to see the Beautiful Borders bloom into life . These inspirational spaces can show you what can be achieved in a small area !
There ’ s an Alternative to the Green Desert
Designer : Aaron Marubbi Company : Marubbi Landscape
The idea behind this border is to make the visitor question whether a traditional pristine , green lawn really is worth the effort or the fossil fuels that it takes to maintain such a monoculture . Instead of weekly mowing , how about letting it grow wild ? Plant it up with pollen-rich garden plants and meadow natives to increase biodiversity and as a result encourage more wildlife to the same area .
The Crinkle-crankle , Dead-hedge Border
Designer : Cathy Perry Sponsors : The Gardener ’ s Bothy , Staunton Harold
Central to this border is a dead-hedge which forms the backdrop to naturalistic planting . Mixing wild and cultivated plants , design suggests an English summer hedgerow providing for the needs of a range of beneficial creatures . All materials are natural or recycled and it ’ s topped off with beautiful willow bees .
