Having struck out on a number
of big name targets, the Dallas
Mavericks have had to make do
overpaying for pseudo stars a
level or two below most franchise
cornerstones.
That they’ve been so successful
speaks to the timelessness of Dirk
Nowitzki, and the ability of their
scouting and analytics staff to
unearth valuable contributions
from complete reclamation projects.
John Jenkins is one of their latest
ventures, after failing to crack the
Atlanta Hawks’ rotation three years
in to his NBA career. Shooting has
been Jenkins’ most marketable skill
throughout his playing days, shooting
43.8 percent in college, 34.1 percent
in the D-League, and 37.5 percent
with the Hawks.
Jenkins has the potential to be
a Korver-lite for the Mavericks,
running his defender off multiple
screens or spotting up around pick
and rolls—though he’s obviously
