Kids participate in the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard program .

Designed for children between the ages of 9 and 15 , the Junior Lifeguard Program has been around for nearly 40 years , helping to educate youth on the importance of aquatic safety and how to identify hazardous conditions . In order to participate , children must pass the required swim test in the spring — which Balboa Bay Club ’ s conditioning class will help you with .

A partnership between the club ’ s Recreation department and Orange

Coast Aquatic Conference , the Conditioning and Preparation for Junior Lifeguards program has a more than 90 % success rate , ensuring that participants will be in the ideal shape with the proper knowledge to pass the test with flying colors .

The class will take place in the BBC pool , led by OCAC ’ s expert instructors , who have years of experience . In addition to feeling secure in the water and gaining confidence , the program will teach stroke instruction , strength

and conditioning , and strategies and techniques for passing the test , which includes a 100-yard swim and three minutes of treading water .

Swimmers are welcome to come to as many classes as their schedules permit , with an Early Start option beginning Jan . 19 , 2021 , and the regular conditioning launching in early February . Due to COVID-19 , the BBC program will only be offered to members . Private lessons are also available for an additional fee .
