is pretty smart and he is a nice guy.” That was a day I will
always remember but I am sure he has forgotten. Since that
time he has been an important part of my professional life.
He has been my teacher, my mentor, and my friend. He has
been a role model for me and many other young physicians
through the years.
Our relationship continued to flourish over the last 35
years. We have had some interesting discussions. He helped
me with a paper I wrote as an infectious diseases fellow
about bone marrow granuloma ̸
