[ Q&A ] Getting to Know Susan Thomson Tschirn THE DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY SHARES HER PERSONAL MOTTO AND WHAT SHE CRAVES AT THE MEMBERS GRILL BY ANN CHATILLON Susan Thomson Tschirn was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She and her family spent summers in San Diego at Mission Beach to escape the sizzling desert heat. That was during the ‘60s, which were “crazy and fun times,” Susan points out. She earned a master’s degree and PhD in social psychology at Tulane University. Susan works as a counselor. She’s married to Darryl Tschirn; they live on Balboa Island and have a 29-year-old son, Demian, who’s an entertainment attorney in Beverly Hills. Susan loves playing the piano, reading, boating and, as of late—golfing. AC: If you could have lunch with anyone, dead or alive, whom would you choose? ST: Einstein, so he could explain the Universe to me. AC: When are you most happy? ST: I am most happy when I am with my family, and being outdoors. AC: What food and/or beverage do you crave at the club? ST: I love the chips and salsa, mai tais, shrimp tacos, and chicken Caesar wrap. I couldn’t think of just one thing! AC: Homebody or Jet-set? ST: I am a jetsetter for sure! Never been a homebody. Recently though, since we’ve all had to shelter, I found out it’s not that bad. AC: What TV show have you binge-watched? ST: Recently, binge-watched Bloodline for the second time! Also, Designated Survivor and Game of Thrones. AC: Who’s your hero? ST: My heroes are all the people who love their families and take good care of them. If everyone did this, we would have an idyllic world. AC: Any fun fact we might not know about you? ST: All my life, I have disliked golf and everything about it. Today, I am learning to play golf. I even watch the golf channel. Change can happen! AC: If you were to get a tattoo, what would it be? ST: Growing up Catholic, tattoos were a big no-no, a sin if you will. So for me, the bottom of my foot with a heart tattoo is the best I can do. AC: What do you fear? ST: Social isolation. AC: What’s your favorite season? ST: My favorite season is summer! It’s never long enough. And I adore Christmas—especially Christmas sales in July! The best of both worlds. AC: Are you a dog or cat person? ST: Definitely a dog person, specifically a pug named Maurice! I am terribly allergic to cats and not a fan anyway. AC: What’s your motto, or a saying that you really like? ST: “Today’s the day!” (Mel Fisher). Each day this treasure hunter would take his boat out to find sunken treasure in and around the Florida Keys. He would start his daily exploration with that motto. AC: What do you enjoy most about the BBC? ST: I love all the people! The pool, the outdoor bar, and the outdoor summer concerts! The BBC has the most welcoming and fun atmosphere that I have ever experienced at a club. 14 BAY WINDOW
