Meet Dr . Anne Marie McNeill
CAROLE PICKUP : Tell me how you chose medicine as a career ? DR . ANNE MARIE MCNEILL : I was not one of those people who always knew they wanted to be a physician . I never had a grand vision for my career . I didn ’ t grow up knowing any physicians , and didn ’ t see that as something that was possible for me until I had already graduated college . I just kept studying things that I was interested in as I was exposed to them . That led me to my doctorate program in Pharmacology , then medical school .
CP : What was your educational path ? AMM : I went to UC San Diego for my Bachelor ’ s degree in Chemistry . Then my PhD in Pharmacology at UC Irvine , my MD at UC Irvine , Medical Internship at UCLA , then back to UC Irvine for Dermatology Residency .
CP : Who is your favorite clothing designer ? AMM : Christian Dior
CP : Do you like to shop in person or online ? AMM : I shop online . I have a great relationship with a Dior associate at the Aspen store . She always emails me a pdf of the upcoming collection , and ships me my choices . It is wonderfully easy and fun , but at the same time probably a terrible habit . Still , there are worse vices than great fashion !
CP : Describe your favorite pastime . AMM : A great Saturday starts with tending to our pygmy goats , Bonnie and Clyde , and our 7 hens . Then enjoying scrambled eggs with farm fresh eggs with our family .
CP : How about family life ? AMM : I met my husband of 26 years , Gordon , during our undergraduate years at UCSD . We have 5 children , ages 19 , twins who are 18 , 13 and 7 .
