Battling BARE's Teal Star: The #PTSD Magazine October 2014, Issue 1 | Page 3

The answer to this is simple. We are each the experts in our own life. We live in a day and age when we’ve turned this power over to so many other people. The doctor knows what is best for us medically. The preacher knows what is best for us spiritually. The teacher and school system know what is best for our children, and I tell you my friends that just isn’t so. We are all seekers of this thing we call “the truth”—and the truth is the truth as we perceive it to be. What is true for one is not necessarily true for another and vice versa. So, we will be hearing lots of different truths in this magazine—and you’ll have the wonderful ability to be the final say on what will work for you…to pick and choose what you’ll put in your “salad of healing”, if you follow my rather quirky train of thought.

Finally, my fellow Teal Stars, we are going to cover a lot of different topics that may or may not seem to be related to PTSD. Call it “dealing with the issue without dealing with the issue.” We are going to address the WHOLE self—mind, body, emotions and spirit. WAIT! Before you slam this shut, we aren’t going to be talking about any particular religion per say. We are just going to be talking about beliefs—because it is those beliefs that either allow us to hope or not, and my dear fellow Teal Stars, hope is the essential and magic ingredient in healing.

So, we’ll talk about nutrition—and how it has been proven to affect mental and emotional health. We’ll talk about where exactly emotional health comes from—how the mind works and affects the body. We’ll talk about how laughter is an incredibly healing salve, and more importantly how to infuse more laughter and “happy” into your life. We’ll talk about gratitude, and balance.

We’ll talk about breakthroughs in the fields of mental, emotional and physical health. We’ll talk about fun stuff to do with your spouse and family and yourself. We’ll talk about books that feed your heart and soul. We’ll talk about how self-care is often mistaken for selfishness and how that “just ain’t so”. We’ll talk about the power of friendships. All that “good stuff”…and I’m personally throwing in some “weird and wacky” metaphysical stuff that has helped me and my family—along with many others that I’ve coached…like herbs, candles, crystals and Spirit….just remember when reading my contributions that “every group needs and fruit-loop….and I just LOVE being a fruit-loop!”

I ask that if you disagree with anything, just chuckle and move on without raising a fuss. We are positive, uplifting and supportive of one another’s truth, ok? Because, like we said before, we each have our own version of the truth—and aren’t striving for perfection. We are striving for healthy, happy and whole.

So in closing, remember to always...

Love with PASSION!

Live with PEACE!

Dare to DREAM—for you are worthy of everything good this Universe has to offer and more!
