Suzanne Kirkpatrick, President
Puerto Vallarta Garden Club is in its third full year fulfilling our mission of stimulating the
knowledge and love of gardening, and beautifying and protecting our local environment
through civic planting projects and educational and horticultural programs.
We have planted trees and bougainvillea in planters on Basilio Badillo, Olas Altas, the
Mercado area and Insurgentes, Vallarta and Avenida Mexico. In 2012, Lazaro Cardenas
Park was also completely renovated by the club. Our most recent project is Francisca
Rodriguez, the street leading to the Pier.
To fund these efforts, PVGC sells sponsorship of tiles on planters, which are filled with a
single primavera tree surrounded by bougainvillea and Corona de Cristo (Crown of Thorns)
and other flowering plants. Custom designed tiles, featuring the sponsor’s names and often
a philosophy or memorial, are affixed to each planter. The gorgeous yellow blossoms of the
primavera and the colorful bougainvillea now cascade over the streets. All of this in three
years!
The annual Bugambilia Festival is the major project of PVGC. This year our festival is May
9-11. Those who were able to attend our Preview Event at Casa Chickie heard about our ambitious plans, including making Puerto Vallarta the bougainvillea capital of the world!
In the future, the goal is to branch out to other parts of the city to increase beautification,
making Puerto Vallarta an ever increasingly attractive destination for tourism. Because
tourism is the main “industry” here, this will result in a more vibrant economy and better
livelihood for all its citizens.
Thank you all for your support,
