What made you decide to play bass?
I was really bored one day and decided to
rummage through the garage; that’s where
I came across an old bass. My dad was in a
local band and his bassist left some gear at
our house, so he said I could play on it if I
was extra careful. I instantly felt in love, it was
so much fun to play compared to flute and
keyboard, which was what I had previously
been learning.
How/Where did you learn to play?
I learned to play at home by listening to my
favorite songs and trying to find tabs on the
Internet. After a month or two I went into school
and swapped my keyboard lessons for bass so
I could re-write my GCSE music pieces for the
bass guitar and started a band with my best
friends and cousin.
Who are your musical inspirations, both
male and female?
The first band I think that really inspired me
was Incubus. I love the fact every album is
different and was a musical progression... it
made me realize that you don’t have to stick
to one genre and left it define you; it was just
about the sound and musicianship. Both bass
players, Dirk Lance and Ben Kenney, are real
heroes of mine. I feel they both approach the
