Bass Musician Magazine - SPECIAL August 2014 Female Bassist Issue | Page 196
Do you find that you constantly have to prove yourself...
as a musician, or a musician that happens to be a female?
Not constantly, but sometimes.
Do you feel, as a female bassist, that you receive the
professional respect afforded male bassists?
Overall, yes.
What is your advice on how to be taken professionally in
the music industry?
Learn to play different styles of music, learn to read and be
professional.
From a practical point of view, do you find managing
the weight of a bass challenging? If so, do you have any
special techniques/advice?
It depends on the instrument; I find padded straps make heavier
basses easier to support for extended periods of time.
What do you wish someone had told you when you were
first getting started?
Take a marketing course!
Any advice for other females interested in getting started
on the bass?
Invest in good equipment and see above… RE: professionalism
What can we look forward to from you in
the coming year?
I am working on starting a product line…. stay tuned!
