Bass Musician Magazine - SPECIAL August 2014 Female Bassist Issue | Page 163
What do you wish someone had told you when you
were first getting started?
I had a dad always on me, forcing me to practice at an early
age. I have no regrets, everything happened the way it was
supposed to. Parents play such a huge role in their kids’
lives. I’m so grateful that I grew up with both of my parents
guidance.
Any advice for other females interested in getting
started on the bass?
Yes, stay focused on your goals and get an education. Try to
find bass players or other musicians in your area to mentor
you. I’m always here for the female bass community. Feel
free to hit me up. I do my best to respond to everyone.
What can we look forward to from you in the coming
year?
You can find me on the ‘On The Run Tour’ playing bass
with Beyoncé and Jay Z. Also, new music, videos, and a
tour coming soon with my band The GG’s.

special techniques/advice?
I grew up with the bass being bigger than I was at the age
of 7, so over the years I have learned to play these heavy
basses, and it’s normal to me. But a comfortable strap is
everything. Take care of your back and try to be mindful of
your posture. I think playing should be comfortable.
