the loWer end
John cox might have won the tournament in Wheeler’s mid-lake
section, but the majority of the top 20 focused on the lower end
near Wheeler dam. this area was highly productive for both the
schooling bite and the creek bite, and the anglers knew it. in fact,
the amount of pressure that the area received could be the main
reason why the tournament wasn’t won at the lower end. because
of the distance from takeoff at ditto landing to the popular areas
such as Second creek, First creek and the elk river, the anglers
who fished there were forced to refuel each day of the tournament,
which became a minor factor in the outcome.
