MARYLAND TBF MOURNS LONGTIME TREASURER ROBERT HASSLER

The Maryland Bass Federation is saddened to report that longtime state treasurer and tireless bass fishing promoter Robert“ Bob” J. Hassler, 68, of Fayetteville, Pa., passed away March 24.

“ Bob was a go-getter who loved fishing and sharing his passion for the sport with everyone,” says Maryland Bass Federation Tournament Director Chris Huffman, who worked alongside Hassler during many TBF projects, meetings and events.
Huffman says Hassler was a TBF member since 2007 and served as state treasurer from 2010 until shortly before his death. Hassler continued assisting with tournaments and other TBF functions while battling a series of long-term health complications.
“ Bob was very dedicated to the organization and thought nothing of driving two hours to attend a board meeting or help with a tournament even when he was physically exhausted by illness,” Huffman says.“ Bob would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed help. We really lost a great friend when he passed.”
In February 2018, Hassler was presented with Maryland Bass Federation’ s Sanders Award for his“ unwavering support and unrelenting guidance.”
Hassler was a former commercial diver who worked on underwater construction projects until 1977, when he began working for the United Parcel Service, where he retired in 2005. He was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry Ministry. He is survived by his wife, Jo, and daughters, Kari and Stacie Hassler. ■
