X WRAPPING The blank is diagonally wrapped with carbon tape to improve accu- racy and casting distance by elimi- nating twist during the cast. Shimano calls it Hi-Power X tech- nology. It’s tough to say how much the wrapping contributes to per- formance, but this rod certainly bombs crankbaits a long distance. CI4+ REEL SEAT The reel seat is made of the same light, strong CI4+ carbon as Shimano uses in some of its most popular reels. LONG HANDLE An extra-long 12.7-inch handle increases leverage for launching long casts and fighting large fish. Performance Advice To maximize the performance of a deep-cranking rod, it’s important to pair it with a smooth-casting baitcaster with the proper gear ratio and a spool with sufficient line capacity. Some pros like a reel with a mid-range gear ratio such as 6.3:1, but most prefer a slower and more powerful 5.1:1 reel. I matched the rod with a Lew’s BB1 Speed Spool with 5.1:1 gear ratio, and it was a fantastic combo. The all-new Shimano 300- series Tranx compact high-power reel would be a good match for this rod, too. >> ON THE WATER HITS & MISSES + Slow, tapering action feeds the bait to the fish, resulting in better hookups + Loads and launches well + Lightweight composite construction + Attractive finish + Good price point – An 8-foot model would be nice The Zodias crankin' rod's moderate bend helps with bombing long casts, heavy all-day cranking and fighting fish on treble hooks. APPLICATIONS 1. It’s a good choice for throwing crankbaits of assorted sizes and is ideal for large plugs with big bills. 2. Try it for fishing lipless crankbaits in open water or if you prefer a more moderate rod.
