That is impressive for a program that started in 2010 with the first High School Fishing World Finals followed by a series of state championships in 2011, and FLW anticipates the participa- tion to increase by at least 5,000 in 2017. What’s Next FLW’s plans to expand outdoor recreation and competition don’t end at the high school level. The FLW Foundation also hosts youth fishing events and other youth outreach opportunities at FLW tourna- ments around the country, and plans are under way to expand tournament opportunities and start clubs for middle school and elementary students. FLW and TBF are committed to introducing bass fishing and the outdoors to people of all ages. School Fishing tournaments, and all clubs are covered by SAF insurance, which means there is no added expense for schools with sanctioned high School Fishing clubs. FlW and tBF’s goal is to organize and promote tournament-fishing opportunities for high-school aged students, but the objectives go beyond just competition. the organi- zations aim to connect youth to their natural resources and promote edu- cation, conservation and an active lifestyle. Relating science, technology, engineering and math (SteM) learned in the classroom to fishing and outdoor activities is a key objec- tive of the program. Students can join SAF and enter high School Fishing tournaments by going to highschoolfishing.com and flwfishing.com.
