South Africa Kicks Off Inaugural Cast-for-Cash Season
FLW South Africa kicked off its new tournament enterprise in November 2016 with its SA BASS Castfor-Cash series. Competition is divided into five geographic divisions – Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Southern-Cape – and each division consists of seven tournaments.
Anglers compete on two-person teams, with the top 30 percent in the season standings in each division qualifying for the FLW South Africa Championship. The top two teams at the championship will advance to the Costa FLW Series Championship at Kentucky Lake in November 2017.
At press time, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo had hosted their first events, with Southern-Cape scheduled to begin in mid-December and Kwa-Zulu Natal kicking off in January.
South Africa is the fifth nation to join FLW’ s International Division, along with Canada, Mexico, South Korea and China. For more information, visit flwsouthafrica. com.

FLW and The Bass Federation recently announced a new program to expand the scope of High School Fishing in 2017. As part of the expansion, FLW and TBF will host a series of more than 20 Opens across the country, in addition to 44 state championships and the HSF National Championship.
Dave Maxfield has been named as FLW’ s new HSF tournament director. Maxfield’ s experience in tournament fishing and youth sports dates back several decades. He began fishing the Red Man series, the predecessor to the T-H Marine Bass Fishing League, in the early’ 80s and joined FLW as an assistant tournament director in 1997. He’ s directed BFL events full time for FLW since 2000. Maxfield also coached youth football, basketball and baseball at various levels for 23 seasons.
Joining Maxfield is Scott Ellison in the role of youth director and promotions manager. Ellison has been with FLW since 2008 in various roles, most recently as promotions manager and manager of angler relations. Ellison joined FLW after earning his Master of Business Administration degree from Murray State University, where he served as president of the Student Government Association from 2005 to 2007.
