Bass Fishing Dec 2019 - Jan 2020 | Page 9

BRONZE AND OTHER FALL COLORS L ake Cumberland in central Kentucky is one of the most pictur- esque fisheries in the country, especially when you consider how vast the winding Cumberland River impound- ment really is. The ninth-largest reser- voir in the United States, Cumberland’s steep bluff walls and countless creek channels and cuts combine to form a lake that might look right at home in the deserts of the Southwest if not for all the beautiful foliage surrounding it. Even a cold, rainy and generally dreary forecast couldn’t quell the splen- dor of Cumberland during the 2019 Costa FLW Series Championship, during which fall colors showed out – perhaps none more than the color bronze. Cumberland is known for its thriving population of both largemouth and smallmouth bass, but it was bronze- backs that did the heavy lifting during the championship event.
