TOUR LIFE WINNING TECHNIQUES CaliFornia delta — sept. 26-28 st. lawrenCe riVer — sept. 19-21 63 lbs, 5 oz 62 lbs, 13 oz pattern rather than stay in one small area, Vaughan spent the first two days targeting the tips of about 20 island points out in heavy current in 20 to 50 feet of water. when the current slacked around the islands the final day, he adjusted by fishing the main channel. the Virginia angler caught every fish on a drop-shot with a 1/2-ounce weight and either a berkley powerbait Maxscent Flatnose jerk shad or a Z-Man scented jerk shadZ. Blake Dyer, walnut Creek, Calif. dyer spent most of his time plying the delta’s grass, paying attention to bring his Z-Man Chatterbait jack hammer with the current. he also punched grass with a reaction innovations spicy beaver (tramp stamp) texas-rigged with a 1 1/2-ounce woo! tungsten weight and dirty jigs punchin’ skirt (big texan). Finally, a finesse approach with a 6-inch roboworm Fat straight tail worm (margarita mutilator) on a drop- shot produced a couple of key keepers. laKe oF the oZarKs — oct. 10-12 Grand laKe — oct. 3-5 46 lbs, 7 oz despite failing to catch a limit either of the first two days, warren still managed to top the field by tar- geting better quality bass on chunk rock and fresh, leafy brush piles in the mid-lake area. Most of his fish came in 15 to 30 feet, using a 3/4-ounce bass X football jig (kicker craw) with a Zoom brush hog (watermelon candy) trailer to slowly drag over rocks or a 1/2-ounce white spinnerbait with double wil- low-leaf blades for targeting suspended bass. Dylan Hays, el dorado, ark. pho 26 43 lbs, 14 oz curt warren, rose, okla. wayne Vaughan, Chester, Va. thanks to some last-minute heroics, hays earned the first win of his Flw career at the Central division finale. after breaking off the 3/4-ounce jewel foot- ball jig (peanut butter and jelly) that he’d caught most of his fish on that week, hays spent the last three minutes slinging a strike King 6Xd (blue her- ring) to a brush pile, which rewarded him with a 4- pound kicker – the winning bass. prior to that, he fished as many docks and brush piles as he could.
