COOL-DOWN CLOTHING Manufacturers such as frogg toggs – with products such as Chilly Bands and Super Chilly Cooling Towel – have been working on fabrics that actually have a cooling effect on the skin.
Under Armour thinks it has a winner in its CoolSwitch technology, which incorporates a coating on the inside of the garments. When it gets hot and the wearer starts sweating, the fabric begins to cool off the skin and dissipates heat away from the skin. Among the available CoolSwitch clothing: long- and short-sleeve shirts, hoodies, gloves, neck gaiters and more.
Likewise, Columbia has stepped up with its Omni-Freeze ZERO. It works on the same principle as similar climate-control clothing: You work up a sweat catching fish – or because you’ re not catching fish – and the perspiration-activated properties of the clothing’ s fabric kick in. We’ re not sure how it works, but the wearer can detect a noticeable difference.
