2018 FLW TOUR CO-ANGLER OF THE YEAR
MARK HORTON, NICHOLASVILLE, KY.
How does it feel to be the 2018 FLW Tour Co-angler of
the Year?
There’s nobody more surprised about it than me. I never
go into a season counting points and worrying about all that
stuff because as a co-angler you’re at the mercy of a lot of
different people throughout the year. All you can do is do the
best that you can every day and just see how you end up.
[At St. Clair] I was actually kind of looking at the points
to see how bad I could screw up and not drop out of the
top 10. I figured I had to finish in the top 130 to stay in the
top 10. But I never tried to figure out how anybody else
was going to do, and I’m never the kind of person to wish
ill luck on anybody else to benefit myself. Nobody was
more upset to see Johnny Douglas, who’s a friend of mine
– and I think he was in second or third going in – drop all
the way to 11th. He zeroed one day. Nobody was more
upset than me because I’ve been there and done that, and
I know how devastating it is to have a good season
destroyed by a bad day.
If winning COY wasn’t a goal, what was your goal?
It’s always been just enjoying the camaraderie of the
guys that I travel with. Being under a lot of pressure at work,
this is just my way of getting away, to have a good time and
forget about all the crazy stuff that’s going on back
