pool. Kentucky Dam ran about 63,000
cubic feet per second during tourna-
ment days, but it was not the usual
midday increase to accommodate the
typical power draw. Rather, the water
was trucking throughout the day.
“It was harder this week to say what
looked right because the TvA was run-
ning so much current that a lot of the
86
fish held tighter to the bottom,”
Lambert says. “When the current’s not
as strong you’ll see them getting
stacked up and getting ready to eat.
But this week it was more about num-
bers; it was more about seeing five to
eight fish.”
Another key was adapting to a dead
trolling motor battery – the result of a
bad charger – that limited Lambert on
day two. unable to guide his boat pre-
cisely, he used the current and wind to
move along straight-line ledge sections
and pick off whatever he could.
CO-ANGLER
CHAMPION
Name: Grayson Smith
Hometown: Clarksville, Tenn.
Winning Weight: 54-03 (15 fish)
Winning Program: Smith followed
up an 11-14 catch on day one
with back-to-back
limits of more
than 21
pounds to take
the co-angler
title. He caught
the majority of
his fish on a drop-
shot with a 1/4-
ounce weight and a Roboworm,
but also landed one of his keep-
ers on a Texas-rigged Strike King
Bull Worm. Fishing either, a
super-slow retrieve was the only
way he could get bit.
