NEW MINN KOTA ULTREX A“ GAME CHANGER” FOR GRASSROOTS BASS FANS

Minn kota has been raising the bar in trolling motor technology for decades. That tradition continues with the new Ultrex, which promises to be a powerful new ally to help The Bass Federation members catch more bass.

Featuring steering control that’ s a cross between cablesteer and electric-steer technology, along with built-in gPS capabilities, the Ultrex is already garnering high praise from grassroots competitors across the continent.
“ it’ s truly a game changer,” reports longtime TBF member Scott Bonnema, who credits the new high-tech trolling motor with helping him win the district 9 TBF National Semi-Finals on minnesota’ s gull Lake last fall.“ Ultrex is exceptionally fast, quiet, easy to operate and offers features that will change the way many Federation members fish for bass.
“ The combination of cable- and electricsteer systems gives you responsive, yet effortless power steering,” he adds.“ There’ s absolutely no fighting with the trolling motor.”
Available in 24-volt, 80-pound thrust and 36-volt, 112-pound thrust options with 45-, 52- or 60-inch shaft lengths, the new Ultrex blends the rugged performance of the tournament-tested Fortrex with the electronic wizardry of minn kota i-Pilot, complete with Spot-Lock gPS anchoring in both i-Pilot and i-Pilot LiNk models.
“ The Ultrex internal gPS operates independently of electronics on the dash, and Universal Sonar 2 is built in as well,” Bonnema notes.“ So it works regardless of what kind of sonar and gPS you’ re running.”
Bonnema is a big fan of the Spot-Lock feature.
“ once you hit the button, it keeps you within a 3-foot circle, automatically adjusting for waves, wind and current,” he says.“ This allows anglers to focus on fishing, or even leave the bow to put bass in the box and manage fish without drifting out of position. And in big waves, you don’ t have to stand at the bow to control the boat.
“ People wonder if it chews up the battery, but the system is so efficient that it actually conserves battery power and extends your runtime between charges,” he says.“ Spot- Lock is just as easy to turn off, too. if i want to move to a new spot, simply touch the pedal to disengage it, go wherever you want to go, then tap the button to re-engage it.”
TBF member Scott Bonnema says the new Minn Kota Ultrex could change the way you fish.
Another major benefit, he reports, is being able to control all the same functions anywhere in the boat via a hand-held remote. one final tip Bonnema has for fellow TBF members regarding the new Ultrex is what to do with your old Fortrex when making the switch.
“ The Fortrex easily slides onto the heavy-duty mounting bracket for the Ultrex, so my advice is to keep the Fortrex as a backup just in case,” Bonnema says.“ The Ultrex is extremely reliable, but accidents happen. A spare Fortrex could save the day whether you’ re competing in a local club event or TBF National Semi-Finals for your chance at‘ Living the dream.’”
