Thrift Never Stops
Thrift’s consecutive limits streak now
stands at 70, and he’s now cleared more
than $2.5 million in career earnings in 13
years as a Tour pro.
Oh yeah, and he happens to be third in
Angler of the Year points through two
events with his eyes on yet another crown.
Santee Cooper In
Trouble?
16
State-owned Santee Cooper, a major utili-
ties provider in South Carolina and the
namesake of Santee Cooper Lakes (Lakes
Marion and Moultrie), is in the midst of tur-
moil due to overwhelming debt, at least in
part due to a failed nuclear project. The
state is considering turning over opera-
tions of the utilities company to a private
party, casting doubt on the future of the
popular South Carolina fisheries. If a pri-
vate buyer chooses to not renew the
license required to continue operating the
hydroelectric project, the lakes could be
drained and the dams eliminated.
In the meantime, Santee Cooper has
turned over its fish hatchery to the state’s
Department of Natural Resources – a
move that will help ensure continued suc-
cess of a hatchery program that supplies
game fish to two of the nation’s top bass
fisheries, at least for the time being.
