FLW Cups Honored as Champions Of
Economic Impact in Sports Tourism

The November/December 2018 issue of Sports Destination
Management magazine recognized the 2017 and 2018 FLW Cups
among its Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism.
The 2017 Cup in Columbia, S.C., was honored in the mid-market
category. According to the event host, Capital City/Lake Murray
Country Regional Tourism Board, the average visitor spend was
tracked at $304.12 per person. More than 68,000 spectators attended
this event.
Visit Hot Springs and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism
hosted the 2018 FLW Cup in Hot Springs, Ark. It was included in the
small-market category. More than 66,000 fans and anglers attended,
generating a total economic impact of more than $24.4 million.
Other notable champions among 36 events recognized in four cate-
gories were the 2018 NCAA Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, the 2018
NFL Draft in Dallas, Texas, and the PGA’s Honda Classic in Palm Beach
Gardens, Fla.
According to the article: “All these winners represent the most
notable success stories and illustrate quantifiable results from each of
the event-destination partnerships. Working together, these event
organizers and host destinations achieved outstanding economic
impact, an exceptional experience for athletes and spectators, media
attention to the destination, and much more.”
