THEO LOMBARD

Theo Lombard fishes the Bass Challenge with his father Oom Piet. They fish from a crackleback Lite 360. We caught up with Theo at the outing and got an extensive look into his rig.

Bass Digest : What do you enjoy about the TBC and how did you get into it.

Theo Lombard : I caught my first bass in 2010 and since then I have been hooked. My first comp was at Murray Park and I heard about it from my friend Wesley from the Carp inn who said I should give it a bash. After that I bought myself a plastic tub from which I fished for sometime. I then registered on the online community forum and met some great people, and the rest is history.

Bass Digest : What has been your highlight in the Bass Challenge series thus far?

Theo Lombard : My highlight was in the 2013 season when in the first three tournaments I achieved top 5 finishes. Then to end up in the classic was just awesome, especially that my Dad also made it into the classic and we got the opportunity to fish it together. I managed to finish 10th overall in the 2013 season and I am very happy with that.

Currently in the 2014 season I am lying 4th overall and hope to hold onto my position and make it to another classic.

Bass Digest : What has been your funniest moment on the Bass Challenge?

Theo Lombard : We were fishing Murray Park, which is were I learnt to fish. The water had been treated for the Hyacinth that started growing there, and in the process had killed off all the grass. My Dad and I were fishing and we really battled to pick up any fish as most of the cover was gone. We moved into the river section later in the day and my Dad got a take and struck, he quickly turned to me and said “I have points on the board” and with that said the Bass breached and spat the lure back at him. We both blanked that day.
