Bass Digest May 2014 Issue 7 | Page 27

Page 2 myself I decided to put all my rods away except 3, a Horny Toad and two punching rigs. Sunday morning was looking good with the weatherman predicting hot sunny weahter. We headed back to the bays where managed to get fish the day before. After about an hour I had my limit punching the thickest structure I could find. Hendri was struggling to boat fish with only one in the live well. We headed towards the river section, to find some dirtier water, where I manage to get a kicker of about 1.3kg BY PURE LUCK. I cast my punching rig out into 65ft of water, just swiming it back to the boat, I got hit right next to the boat, the Bass did’nt know what hit him, he was in the boat before you can say FISH-ON. Hot spots: We found 4 bays with some very thick cover and steep banks. Best techniques: Most of our fish was taken on Punching lures (Yamamoto Flapping Hogs, Strike King Rodents and Berkley Havoc Pit Boss) rigged with a heavy cover hook and 1 - 1 1/2 oz tungsten weights. Tackle: 6’10 Quantum Tour Edition Heavy Rods, Quantum Tour reel and 50lb Siperwire Stealth. The Numbers: Total fish: 51 Total weight: 46.33kg Average weight: 0.91 kg Fish/Angler: 5.67 Clearwater Pound Club: 6lb - Hendri Oosthuizen - 2.86kg Back to the Top
