TRIBUTES
To shahid mohammed ebrahim
When tragedy strikes it reminds us of our own mortality and how fragile life actually is. It creates the sudden urge for inner reflection and we start questioning our being. Are we on the right path? Are we in good standing with our maker? How will we be announced by friends and family should our time come? What legacy are we leaving behind?
All the above are questions that ran through my mind as I bid farewell to my fishing partner, my business partner, my friend and a man I considered to be a brother.
It’s been a few weeks now since the incident that took place which ended in the passing of Mohammed Shahid Ebrahim, yet it still seems all too surreal. Shahid was competing in Leg 6 of the Bass Challenge at Buffelspoort dam on the 7th June when he fell from his boat and never resurfaced.
It has been an incredibly emotional few weeks for the team at Bass Digest as we come to terms with the loss of our dear friend.
Shahid and I started Bass Digest together in October 2013 and envisioned a digital publication that would promote our top anglers, their sponsors and grow the sport of bass fishing. He was an incredible ambassador to the sport and it showed in everything that he did. From the tributes that have been flowing in it is very obvious… Whenever he crossed someones path he left an impression that stayed with them.
The amount of support received since the incident has been humbling. From myself, my family and Shahid’s family I would like to thank each and every single person that came to our aid. The ongoing support has been incredible.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Muslim community of Bakerton Springs. Shahid had many friends from various walks of life, and to be included in the burial proceedings was an absolute honour. Thank you for accommodating our uncertainties and educating us on your beliefs and traditions.
To my dear friend Shahid… I am going to miss you something terrible my buddy.
Fi Amanillah
