Page 2 Full bags were reached, some rapidly, and some took longer, and once achieved some of us moved back to the main dam searching for bigger fish. Hendri , Kobus and I tried the old dam wall bay where we had heard that bigger fish had been caught – which turned out not to be the case for us . On my way back to the weigh in, I decided to have a bash off a point, and was rewarded with a healthy 1.94 fish caught in about 15ft of water, a 6“ black with red fleck mojo rigged grub being taken on the drop – this helped increase my bag weight and turned out to be the big fish of the weekend. Chaos reigned at the launch with Easterns also closing at 1700, and the rapidly deteriorating slipway, which now challenges many 4x4‘s certainly didn’t help matters. Our results were good in that we all got bags, and it appears that we fared better than many in Easterns who failed to do so, with some even blanking. Sadly Hendri and Kobus snapped a leaf spring on the Phoenix trailer whilst negotiating the launch, had to limp back to the house, and were unable to fish on Sunday. One phone call to Barry (who has some Phoenix trailer spares) was all that it took and Barry came to the rescue, arrived early on Sunday morning and apparently by 1000am they were on the road with a new leaf spring – well done Barry ! This left Sunday morning with three CWBM boats, namely Mike, Pierre and Roy, and self – and we all proceeded to the river, having launched and departed before Easterns . The wind was pumping, the sky was overcast and a good cold front moved through – but we prevailed and once again we all managed to get our limits for the day, with, once again, a plastic pattern prevailing. Best techniques: Most of my fish came out of the river channel, or pockets adjoining the channel, caught on a black split shot rigged fluke.
