Bass Digest/January, 2014

What do you DISLIKE about bass fishing?

When the fish don’t bite on every cast!!

You must have had your fair share of “most embarrassing moments” on the boat – tell us a story you remember well.

For me? Or for a boat partner? Haha you never asked, so here goes.

Richard and I fished a Cast for Cash at Buffelspoort in the middle of winter, and we were running out of battery power because we had fished 3 days in a row (Allen starts to laugh loudly at this point). We tied ourselves to a tree for a while and fished the area, and when it was time to get back to the launch, he pushed off and, well ……… he stood there for what felt like an eternity doing a combination of the arm roll, invisible hoolah-hoop dance, and the twist – and then he eventually fell in (Bwaaaaahahahahahahaha! Allen starts laughing hysterically at this stage). It was almost 4pm, ice cold, and Richard had ALL his clothes on. He almost drowned, I might add.

Did you help him?

Not immediately, because I was laying on the floor killing myself with laughter. When I finally managed to get up, I helped him.

Who’s your favourite BASSMASTER personality and why?

Brandon Palaniuk. He’s a bit of an underdog and has a great attitude. He’s humble and has that “never die” attitude. He’s an honest guy too. He was disqualified twice this season and the way he handled it was phenomenal. The one event he culled a fish literally a few hundred yards from where he was supposed to. He then came back a tournament or two later and won it.

Then Fred “Boom Boom” Roumbanis

For the anglers out there, how important is time on the water?

There is no other way to say it – there is no substitution for time on the water

What have you achieved so far, and what are you aspirations for the future?

00 - I fished Nationals in 2012 at Wriggleswade 00 0000and managed an 18th place

00 - I am fishing the 2014 Divisionals and I 00 00 00 000already had a very good start at the Vaal Dam 00 000where I came 2nd – apparently luck counts 00 00 000hehehehehe.

00 - Short term goal would be to achieve a Top 10 00 000-finish in the Divisionals.

00 - Long term goals – It will be quite a task but I 00 000would like to get my Provincial and then 00 00 000Protea colours, especially with Southern 00 00 000Division where you have some serious 00 00 000-- -----anglers to compete against, jeepers!

Thanks Allan for an awesome outing, it has been an absolute pleasure to spend some time with you on the water and we wish you all the success for the future.
