Bass Digest: Catching the heaviest 5 fish in every tournament is always the goal every angler hopes to achieve. What advice would you offer to any angler wishing to increase the size of fish they wish to catch?

Kieron Samkin: The first objective is try and pattern the fish. Often the more fish caught leads to a better size of fish. Adapting techniques and baits to the time of day and the venue is also crucial

Bass Digest: What is you go-to bait or technique?

Kieron Samkin: I don’t have any favourite baits or techniques but will rather throw a variety until something works.

Bass Digest: All Anglers experience bad days on the water, days when things just don’t seem to go your way. Was there any point in the season when this happened to you and what did you do to overcome this?

Kieron Samkin: Fortunately the scoring system with Natal allows us to drop our worst 2 results and the best 6 results count towards our overall results. Often when the fishing is tough I remind myself that others will be finding it tough too and I just keep on trying.

Bass Digest: “What happens on tour stays on tour” but at Bass Digest we like to tell all. What is your funniest moment you can recall on tour?

Kieron Samkin: Going on tour is brilliant and that’s when we really get to know each other and have a laugh. It’s always good to go away and form new friendships and always good to get home too. Let’s keep what happens on tour stays on tour.

Bass Digest: What advice do you have for young aspiring bass anglers that hope to achieve the level of fishing you have?

Kieron Samkin: Discipline is key and you must keep your dreams alive. You might not qualify for the National Championship within in your division straight away but keep on fishing and learning and it will happen.

Bass Digest: Being such an accomplished angler already, where to from here for you? What are your aspirations & goals for the future?

Kieron Samkin: I have qualified for the next World Championships which will be held in Mexico and that is a definite. I have always wanted to fish in Mexico. I would like to be part of a team that hosts the World Championships at home.

Bass Digest: Kieron, thank you for your time and we look forward to keeping track of your future bassing achievements

Kieron Samkin: Thanks Bass Digest, hope to see many of you on the water
