oakleys, my brand new shoes, rod & reel and of course most importantly the fish. So now I was a couple of grand short. I only came up with one shoe on. In my haste of leaving the boat, I saw my one shoe lying on the boat, so was relieved to find my shoe. Found my glasses and hat lying on the boat. I then crank baited with area to find my rod, but no luck. After 15 minutes I hood a good fish, as I was fighting it, I realized it was my lost rod I had hooked. I managed to grab to lost rod by the tip, turn it around, slacken the drag and fight this big fish, as I got it close to the boat I realized it wasn’t quite an SA record, but was around 4kg, which as I netted it came off. Never in my life have I had so many highs and lows in half an hour

Bass Digest: What advice do you have for young aspiring bass anglers that hope to achieve the level of fishing you have?

Brendon Van Zuydam: It’s a long hard road to master all the aspects of the sport which keeps changing, new techniques keep coming out, but if you are persistant and always keep an open mind you will go a long way in the sport.
