What dam stands out the most to you? Why?
Favourite dams:
My favourite would have to be Rust de Winter Dam
Tzaneen Dam is also beautiful. It’s nice and clean, the surroundings are beautiful with the forests, and the town is right next to the dam. You can use almost anything there from frog, spinnerbait, cranks, plastics, you name it – it has gorgeous features for all types of fishing. Stunning place.
Venues I like fishing:
Witbank and Loskop
Special dam:
Clanwilliam Dam is a special place. It’s stunning and it’s also because it was where I came 2nd. It has a special place in my heart and I will go back there any day!
I like Witbank Dam. It’s not a dam where you can just go out and get 5 fish easily. I like it because I am a very patient fisherman and I thrive on pressure, I excel under pressure. I get it from my Dad I suppose – he is not a fisherman but he was a very patient person, so that has helped me a lot in my fishing.
Loskop is not really one of my favourites but it has quality fish. That is where my friend caught that 5.56kg fish. Friend of mine (Glen liebold) caught a beautiful fish there in May 2013, of 4.9kg. So yes I like it from that aspect.
What lake would you like to fish in the USA? Or anywhere else besides RSA?
El Salto in Mexico for sure!
Do you ever add scent to your baits?
Yes I do. Some of my baits are scented already, but if not I would sometimes add scent, and I also add colour to the tails of my flukes, and some other lures.
Do you prefer fishing slow or fast?
I prefer to fish slow. I believe there are 3 windows in the day when you can fish fast, or faster. You need to manage your time and adapt. When the fish want it fast, give them a reaction lure, then when the bite goes off, change to something else so that you do not waste your time.
