What do you usually fish with – mono, braid, fluoro?

I usually fish fluoro carbon line. I used the Vicious 14lb Pro Elite, good line at an affordable price.

Then I also use Seaguar fluoro, and the SMACKDOWN braid, which are Goya products.

Do you have any superstitions or things before, during or after a trip?

Not really. However, I usually get on the water and start with a prayer, and then carry on with my day.

You’re going to the USA for the Federation Nation tournament in October. What do they give you? What are your plans? What do you have to take?

We will only know the venue mid-March. They will give me a boat to use for the duration of the tournament. It’s usually a Skeeter or something. But I have to take all my own baits, rods, and everything else. That’s going to be a problem as its going to weigh quite a lot.

The tournament itself is 3 days long. You’re not allowed to fish the venue for a week before the tournament. So I plan to go over for about 4 weeks, and for 2 weeks I’ll hire a boat and just scout the venue and prefish and learn as much as I can about the venue, so that I’m pretty prepared for the event.

Do you enjoy fishing on your own, or do you prefer fishing with someone, or in Team events?

It’s much of a muchness. It’s two different games and I like both. Obviously when you’re fishing Divisionals etc., you fish on your own, so you have to make all the decisions – where to fish and when, what to use, etc. Your decisions are your own, your success is your own but so are your failures and you have to live with it. We learn from our mistakes, so that’s not always a bad thing.

If you fish with someone it has its advantages and disadvantages. You can learn from them, both of you can find fish quicker, you can find a pattern quicker, and you have some company on the boat. But when it comes to decision time, that’s when things get tricky. He may want to move, while you may want to stay. Or he will want to fish deep and you want to go shallow. When it works for you it’s great, but when it doesn’t then you both have things stewing in your head. So at the moment it’s mostly me on my own, and I like making my own decisions and that means I am responsible for my success or failures..

I do however love fishing with my fiancée on the boat. That, to me, is time well spent together sharing my passion, and I’m grateful she can share it with me.

Is there anything you don’t like about bass fishing?

Two main things.

00000000 - I don’t like the politics, but you need to 000000000 decide whether you want to get involved 000000000 or go on your own and deal with it.

00000000 - I don’t like the fuel price!
