Game Day Routine
A regular game day routine should be set in place, this helps the participants to settle
into the activities and be confident for the game.
Organisation – Write out the line up sheet with copies for umpires and scorers.
Conduct team discussion with a fo cus on effort and fun.
Warm up – Using established inclusive activities.
Have the team ready for the start of the game on time.
When on the bench have all participants ready and aware of the hitting order. One hitter
batting in the game, one “on deck” (a space between the bench and field where a batter
can safely get ready) and the remaining participants at the bench area. Note: No
equipment is to be picked up until the batter is called to be “on deck”.
All players to get to fielding positions as qui ckly as possible.
Home plate meeting
The home plate meeting is held before each game with coaches from both sides and the
umpires of the game.
Line up sheets are exchanged and inspected by the plate umpire who will notify each
coach of the specifics of each line up.
At this meeting the home team coach will discuss any individual field rules which include
the home run fences, back nets and out of play areas.
The umpires will discuss the general rules agreed to, i.e junior or school competitions
that allow only 9 hitters or 7 runs to be scored per inning, and pitching rest rictions
placed on any player, as well as time restraints or inning specific rules.
