Real stories Robyn with Wendy, her support worker. bandage her mother’s wounds. Everyone relied on Robyn. “I never talked about my feelings with anyone. Any feelings I had I bottled up. The teachers didn’t know what was happening at home either.” At the age of 11 social services referred Robyn to Barnardo’s Doncaster Young Carers Service and she was introduced to Wendy, Autumn 2016 her support worker. Robyn was terrified. She didn’t understand what was happening and she didn’t know that she was a young carer. “When I first met Robyn she wouldn’t speak to me, the most I got was a little smile or a nod,” says Wendy. Wendy and Robyn met regularly and talked about Robyn’s feelings. Robyn eventually began to trust Barnardo’s Today 9
