Lake Ta'al June 2015: how a community of sailors, organisations and businesses pulled together to build 10 Oz Goose dinghies in 4 days!
Every June the Philippine Home Boatbuilders Yacht Club (PHBYC) organises the Family Boat building Weekends in the Philippines, the purpose is to help and serve the local community and also the introduce families to boat building, sailing and teamwork for a cause. this year the event was held over the Independece Day (Phillipines) weekend between 12-19 June 2015.
The event took place at Pusod Ta’al Lake Conservation Center in Batangas.
This year the PHBYC selected Michael Storer’s OzGoose as the boat to build in a weekend.
Sponsors were approached;
Sails: Hyde Sails, all Hyde sails are made at Hyde Sails Cebu in the Phillipines.
Paints & Epoxy: Republic Chemicals; West System
Microballoons, cabosil, brushes, etc.: Polymer Products
Fibreglass: Big Pix
Plywood: Zamboply
Other sponsors: Globe Telecoms
Then PHBYC circulated the dates and signed up those interested..
Following a week’s worth of prefabrication of the wooden parts (basically cutting the ply) by Roy Espiritu of PHBYC and Mik, the weekend was ready to start.
