Do you always recommend using top quality marine plywood?

George UK

JW Not necessarily. If the builder accepts that the boat is to be a short lived one, say a boat built for a single shot event such as the Texas 200 , (check out the Saturday Night Special )

then a cheaper material is warranted. But in general the saving in cost when compared with

the total, especially when the value of the builders labour is factored in is not sufficient to justify the lower value or utility of the boat built with cheap materials.

JW: "The Red Lantern Rally is the annual SCAMP gathering, Held in Mystery Bay on Marrowstone Island in Puget Sound each year, its played for fun and social contact among SCAMP owners. Here we’ve eleven lined up and the crews are about to get ready for the great “Nordland General Store Ice Cream Race. “ Fun? You had better believe it. The ice cream is pretty good as well."

Above JW:"SCAMP camps happen at several venues, but the daddy of them all is the Maritime Centre at Port Townsend WA. We generally have half a dozen boats but have had up to 10, it’s a two week build course and while intense, its huge fun. Here is Vinnie working hard to get his build ready for the next step in assembling the kit."
