Bill recalls that first visit . “ We had been talking about moving from New Orleans , and we went to Destin first . Janet saw that they were opening a Jimmy Buffett retirement community in the area and we came down and looked around .”
In December 2021 , they became the owners of the 14th home to close in the community and made their move to Latitude Margaritaville from New Orleans where they had lived for 25 years .
Janet says their Barbuda Bay villa functions “ really , really well .” She especially loves the long view of the home . “ When you walk in the front door , you can see all way to the back and to the pond behind us .
It makes the house seem huge .” She says she had 50 of her neighbors over recently for a little home party and found her kitchen set up perfect for entertaining .
Bill enjoys the many activities in his new community . He ’ s in a group of neighbors that play golf together at the nearby Windswept Dunes Golf Club and other nearby clubs and there ’ s a Latitude Margaritaville Scramble about every two weeks . He also enjoys driving around in his champagnetoned golfcart to visit with neighbors . “ I tell people I have a champagne golf cart on a beer budget ,” he laughs . “ I used to ride a motorcycle , and when you pass another rider you always reach your hand out . Now we do that on our golf carts . You meet people here all the time . It ’ s a lot of fun !”
